Neurobics: Keep Your Brain In Shape
Brain exercises that engage all the senses- sight, sound, touch, taste and smell, all at once are termed as Neurobics. Brain gets used to routine and can complete routine tasks subconsciously, thus lowering the communication between brain cells. In order to break this routine, brain needs to do something new and challenging to change the pattern of the way it works. Neurobics are similar to physical exercises, except for the fact that they aim to increase brain activity in order to improve brain functioning and prevent from diseases like Dementia, where as physical exercises are for the wellbeing of the whole body.
Although Neurobics can be any activity that engages your brain in a task that is interesting, fun and challenging; we have listed a few for you to try.
1. Try eating with chopsticks
For your next meal, take up a challenge to eat your food using the chopsticks. This could be a little tough, yet fun and will allow your brain to work a little harder.
2. Switch hands
Give your brain a great work out by simply using your non- dominant hand while doing your usual stuff, like brushing your teeth, eating or writing. For example, if you are a right handed person, try using your left hand while brushing your teeth.
3. Turn your life upside down
Try turning your calendar or wearing your watch upside down, this would make your brain do that extra work leading to increased communication between brain cells.
4. Try on new routes
You may have read or heard that Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft would always take a new route to reach home from work. When you follow the same route every time, your brain is on the autopilotmode. In order to increase brain stimulation, try new, unfamiliar route every time.
5. Start a new hobby
Attempt something which had always interested you, but you had never tried it, or something which you can never think of doing. This would be exciting and your brain will get the exercise it needs.
Our brain gets so good at doing the daily routine that it barely has to work at it. Thus, like our body, our brain needs to exercise to keep itself in proper shape. Activities listed above are entertaining and are a must try to give your brain the boost it needs.
