DIGITAL DETOX : Disconnect to Reconnect

DIGITAL DETOX : Disconnect to Reconnect
April 4, 2020ArticlesGeneral Health

There is no doubt that with great advancement in technology our lives have been drastically changed but, with a cost of enslavement towards it. We are always engrossed with our professional work and social media interactions. Undoubtedly, digitalization has made our life easier, but with a payback of everlasting addiction. From the moment we begin our day until the time we end up in bed, our gadgets are always connected with us. Take for an example routine check- calculate how many hours of day we spend on our laptop or on smartphones? Do you always get distracted at work because of the continuous habit of checking social media pages or text messages? This addiction has taken a toll on us physically as well as mentally, while digital media continues to capitalize on our obsession with it.

What is Digital Detox?

Digital detox is when people take breaks from the digital world by suspending the use of any kind of electronic devices and utilize that amount of time for social interactions and activities. It’s a great way to reduce stress and bring a positive change in our life. Once we have succeeded in separating ourselves from our digital gizmos, we will be more focused, calm and productive.

How to start with ‘Digital Detox’?

The virtual world of digital and social media can be really addictive and hence, it is understood that even after being aware of the negative impact of it in our lives we still find it pleasing and difficult to disconnect from it. But with these simple guidelines one can make their digital detox a success:

Plan a ‘Daily routine’ and stick to it:

Overexposure to technology has led us to live a much disorganized life. If we evaluate our lifestyle, we’ll be surprised to see about how much of our day goes unproductive with the use of cellphones and other electronic devices. It is high time to bring some useful and positive changes towards our lifestyle. Plan the day by scheduling the time to different daily activities. Prioritize to productive activities like reading, physical activities such as gymming or yoga classes, cooking and other work which have been put on hold for a long time. Lastly, ensure that our body is able to get a good amount of sleep. Once we have mapped out our routine, make sure to adhere to it.

Take small breaks from time to time:

It is hard to stay focused when our phone is continuously vibrating because of Twitter or Facebook notifications. Social media may connect us with people but it disconnects from our real life. So, taking a break from all these social media platforms can be surprisingly liberating. Try to temporarily deactivate Social media accounts and socialize with people in real life.

Out of Sight, Out of mind

Giving into the temptation of using our cell phones or laptops is pretty common if these devices are right there in front of us or within our reach. Try to set a time for a few hours wherein we can lock our devices and be more involved with the real world activities. Initially, this can be challenging but once we see the benefits we will be in a much happier state both physically and mentally.

Explore a Tech-free vacation:

Sounds challenging because of constant addiction to travel with our gadgets but if we think wisely, in ancient times people used to travel with their maps and compasses as their route guide. Practically, if we speak one can carry a phone but with power reserved only in case of any emergency caused. Explore your vacation with a tech free mindset and let the beauty of the world indulge with your soul.
